Green Savvy Sunday

The Old Bus Depot markets is hosting a Green Savvy Sunday this Sunday (15th Sept ). After missing a few of Canberra's market, I will be participating in Canberra's first interactive market which brings together products and community groups focused on domestic green sustainable.

If you have not know already, we use recycled sterling silver for our handmade jewellery.
I purchase the raw material ( sterling silver ) from A&E  metal merchants in Sydney.

"We buy scrap metals from jewellers and hobbyists or from various industrial users of precious metals. This we have refined back to pure silver.  In addition we purchase metal from local refiners who specialise in supplying us with only recycled material,
All the copper we use for alloying is recycled and is the highest grade available, it comes from recycled copper wire, mainly electrical cabling that would otherwise go into landfill" ( A&E Metal Merchants )

Canberra, here i come......

Dream Comes True

My first Dreamers Market was a real dream comes true.  The  under  cover venue is at the Riverside Theatres  courtyard. It  creates  a unique, bright and intimate village atmosphere for both the makers and shoppers.

I had a fantastic day sharing  my jewellery making experience with the locals and customers as far as from Perth. I also made some new friends and sharing market tips.......

I bought this beautiful handmade WeePots from talented Jo. The pot is hand built from a slad of clay stamped with patterns. I have been looking for something like this for a while and Cactus is just my kind of plant!

So a big thank you to the Dreamers team as well as the customer for coming to the market on Saturday.
You are a classy bunch and supporting your local and Australian handmade.

The next market will be in October 19th (Saturday ), needless to say i will  bring some of my new designs and continue on coversation were we left off.
Save the date and bring your friends.......

Me & Myself

Its another one of my ring a week challenge. Yin and Yang, his and hers. A very much modern kind of ring with clean lines, I like to wear them both at the same time with my black shirt. It has one of my favourite combination of ebony wood and silver, the brass nut is an added bonus!

After a big day from the handmade Canberra Market. I am back to my work bench and experiment with some fold forming, can't wait to take some photos......

Ring a week 2 & 3

Another 2 rings from my ring a week project.

Raw 2 was inspired by the cute and the bronze colour of the miniature brass hex head nut and a determination not to use the gas tank for soldering. The nut act as a functional and an decorative element.

Raw 3 was made from a broken part of another ring riveted onto a sterling silver band and finished with a brass hex head miniature nut as a decoration. It has been a while now of wanting to do something with the broken piece.

I am glad that the broken piece has a second life and it all came together in the end.
I am at my best when there is something to start with, not very good with a bland canvas.

Both rings are made from sterling silver and has been oxidized.

Ring a week

I have join a group of artists on Flickr to kick start this year with Ring a week project.

This is my first RAW (Ring a week).

The ring has been sitting around for ages unfinished ( in a different state) on the other side of the work bench.
I also have these leafs that I collected 6 months ago and it had not change a bit since. You probably have seen them in a few of my jewelley shots.
I really love the little leaf, the colour and the texture, it just so elegant, the leaf i meant!

And it evolved from there....

I figured out all i need to do is get myself to the work bench and get out of the way at the same time and let the magic happens.

Hopefully i will get inspire, make some incredible rings and have lots of fun along the way........
